Wood-utilization

Loggings are in continuous balance with forest reconstructions on our forest farms. Our production is carried out within the opportunities given by forest plans and keeping legal rules affecting silviculture entirely.
The average annual quantity of logged wood takes 380 thousand m3. The assortment composition is the following: wooden plank and saw-industry-log 18%, other saw-industry raw materials 7%, other carpentry timber 45%, fire wood 30%. Energetic wooden chips, which were considered to be waste of felling areas earlier and belonging to renewable energy carriers, get a more and more important role in our assortment.

Logged wood is sold half in half proportion both on domestic and in European markets. Besides meeting commercial requirements we also take it into consideration that our interventions in the life of the forests have to cause the fewest possible damages. In favour of this most of our logging tasks are accomplished during the vegetation period.
The area of contiguous clear felling will not exceed 5 hectares in nature-like forests; only improvement and selection cutting based on natural regrowth are used on the areas of nature reserves. End use of clear felling is carried out in forest regions where both the relations of tree species and of growing regions will justify it. Clear felling is not an aim, but a tool to create a new, native, valuable tree population, instead of forests with non-native or not favourable tree species.
Gradual improvement felling, during which the old population is felled in more steps, within 10-20 years, is used in beech-woods population entirely, and it is preferred in oak and scots pine populations. Selection cutting and farming according to transforming work method are used on more of our forest areas because of the changed legal environment and of the different social requirements; with the help of these methods selection forest-form can be achieved during decades or even centuries.

The most important machines used in wood logging will be replaced by modern, reliable and powerful machines; in favour of indulgent moving of wood materials forwarders are operated, which preserve the soil, the remaining population and the regrowth; furthermore, the transported wood material will not be contaminated.

To replace hard physical work more and more harvesters are used. Forwarder technology is preferred on the areas of improvement felling – where the conditions make it possible – and it is used in growth accelerating thinning as well. To be able to deliver the logged wood to the market without depreciation and in favour of professional silviculture we had to increase the amounts spent on forest opening duties significantly; our opening network is renewed continuously and expanded, according to our opportunities.

During the opening processes we strive to develop main road networks. Using forwarder technology and self-loading jeep trucks giant, contiguous forest blocks can be approached. During forest opening processes the forest railway network is still operated and developed continually. Transport by the forest railway plays a more and more important role in our annual transportation plans. Due to these investments our products can be delivered to our market partners in a shorter period and in a more secure way.

Minősített erdőgazdálkodás

Silvicultural activities of our company have been classified by the Authority of Woods and Forests as good standard since the beginning of 1970s. Current productions for health reasons, work for eliminating damages (break caused by snow, damages caused by storms or wood-borers, destruction of beeches etc.) are carried out continuously.
