During forest reconstruction our aim is, as the result of our activities, to produce forests in Zala County consisting of valuable and indigenous tree species that are suitable for both the growing region and the landscape. Nowadays, forests are reconstructed with leafy tree species primarily. As for coniferous species, scots pines are used in the pine region and larches as mixed tree species of beech and oak populations. Nature-like silviculture has been expanded on each area where it was possible among the circumstances of the growing region and the tree population. The proportion of seed-originated natural reconstructions is between 40-50%; beech-woods populations are reconstructed only in a natural way. Reconstruction originated from root scions is general in acacia-woods, which is supported by mechanical root ripping. Acorn-seeding technology is used in the oak first taking-outs as much as possible. The area of afforested areas is about 5900 hectares. We try to complete forestations before deadline; 500 hectares of continuous forestations are completed in average in a year. The area of the first taking-outs and replacements takes 850 hectares annually in average. Manual tools are used primarily and typically to perform afforestation. Year by year, we strive to increase the area of mechanical cultivation of row spaces and apply aerial chemical weed regulation, using selective herbicides. Our afforestation is protected from damages caused by games with the help of special drugs used to alarm games and with fences. In case of the latter one, we prefer the steel net type which can be used more times. In the forestation areas on sand-lands we usually experience the damages caused by the white grubs and females of cockchafer species. In favour of preventing damages caused by white grubs partial soil disinfection methods are applied in the artificial forestations on sand-land growing regions for years.

Zalaerdő PLtd hardly ever has new areas suitable for forest plantation. Areas with suitable conditions for forest plantation have already been planted in the past decades.
We would like to contribute to the growth of the forest areas of our country with further forest plantations in case of favourable conditions.
